About

Dr Emma Agnew

Emma is a Clinical Psychologist with over 13 years’ experience, known for her warm, thoughtful approach and expertise in supporting people through trauma, emotional challenges, and life transitions.

She understands that life can be challenging - and at times, deeply painful. Our past experiences shape how we feel, think, and relate to others, and there are times when we need help beyond our friends and family. Emma knows that therapy works best when it feels safe and tailored to you.

Approach to therapy

Practical, personalised therapy that meets you where you are.

Her approach is practical, supportive and collaborative, knowing when to deeply listening, and when to give you tangible tools to cope with life's challenges. She will always honour the emotional complexity of your experiences.  She is known for being warm, thoughtful and down-to-earth, bringing authenticity and at times humour into her work. Emma draws on a range of evidence-based therapies, including CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, Schema Therapy and Somatic modalities - most often integrating approaches based on your individual needs and goals.

Professional Background

Extensive experience across trauma, public health & specialist services.

Emma gained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in London and has worked across mental health services in both the UK and Australia. She is also a Board-Approved Supervisor, providing supervision, consultation, and training for other mental health professionals.

She previously served as a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead of a 'DBT and Complex Trauma Service' within a large public hospital. Emma developed and created this service herself, noticing a gap in the public health system for psychology-led services supporting those living with the pain of past trauma, and who are at risk of self-harm.

In this role, she was awarded Psychologist of the Year (2021) for developing an innovative trauma-informed service. Similarly, she won a recognition award in 2013 from a UK NHS Trust for leading changes in mental health services. She is passionate about making changes at both an individual level and system level and has committed throughout her life to supporting people at the most vulnerable time in their lives.
