About
Dr Emma Agnew
I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 13 years’ experience supporting people as they navigate emotional challenges and process past trauma.

I understand that life can be difficult — and at times, deeply painful — and there are moments when we need support beyond our friends and family. I offer a calm and compassionate space where you can slow down, reflect, and begin to make sense of what’s been weighing on you.

My approach is grounded in a trauma-informed and attachment framework, which means I pay close attention to how your past experiences may be shaping how you feel, think, and relate to others now. I believe that therapy is most helpful when you feel safe, understood, and truly heard. Building a therapeutic relationship that feels authentic and attuned to you is at the heart of how I work, as it is through a genuine connection that lasting change becomes possible.

I offer a LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent affirming space. Everyone is welcome to come exactly as you are.

Approach to therapy
Practical, personalised therapy that meets you where you are.
My approach is practical, compassionate and collaborative, knowing when to deeply listening, and when to support you with tangible tools to cope with life's challenges. I will always honour the emotional complexity of your experiences; knowing that it is a lifetime of moments, relationships and experiences that sit behind what you bring to therapy. I am known for my warm, thoughtful and down-to-earth approach, bringing authenticity and at times humour into my work. I am trained in and draw on a range of evidence-based therapies, including CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, Schema Therapy and Somatic modalities - most often integrating approaches based on your indivdiual needs and goals.
Professional Background
Extensive experience across trauma, public health & specialist services.
Emma gained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in London and has worked across a diverse range mental health services in both the UK and Australia. She has extensive experience doing both individual therapy with a wide range of presentations, as well as facilitating many different group therapies. She is also an AHPRA Approved Supervisor, providing supervision, consultation, and training to other mental health professionals.

Emma has previously served as a Senior Clinical Psychologist and the Clinical Lead of a 'DBT and Complex Trauma Service' within a large public hospital. Emma developed and created this service herself, after noticing a gap in the public health system for trauma informed and psychology led services supporting those living with the pain of past trauma, and who continue to experience acute distress.
In this role, she was awarded Psychologist of the Year (2021) for developing an innovative trauma-informed service. Similarly, she won a recognition award in 2013 from a UK NHS Trust for leading changes in mental health services.
